About the Rolex Explorer

The Rolex Explorer I was developed during a time when other watches were affected by extreme pressures and magnetic fields. With its blue parachon hairspring and Oyster casing, the Rolex Explorer could go where only the most adventurous men dared to set foot. The Explorer I watch is hermetically sealed to withstand pressure levels of up to five Newton-tons and is nearly indestructible in the face of the extreme elements and rough terrain. The Rolex Explorer I is not nearly as well known as other Rolex models, however its ruggedness and refined elegance attracts a large number of watch enthusiasts.

The Rolex Explorer II was introduced in 1971 as an addition to the Rolex Explorer I. It features an additional 24-hour indication that can also be used as a second time-zone. This 24-hour indication, among other things, was designed with professional cave explorers in mind, as daylight is nonexistent in deep caverns, and keeping track of the time is a challenge. Even in the dark, the Explorer provides good readability.
