Anna Nordqvist Wins LPGA Tour Championship Presented By Rolex

The LPGA Tour Championship has been keenly followed by all those who were awaiting the announcement of the Rolex Player of the Year Award. The event played an important role in the decision of naming Lorena Ochoa as Rolex Player of the Year. However, the dark horse at the event turned out to be Anna Nordqvist who won the LPGA Tour Championship that was held at The Houstonian Golf & Country Club in Richmond Texas. The event saw some tough competition on the greens over six days from November 17-22. The 120 determined LPGA professionals displayed extreme courage and proved their skills to the spectators. The 72-hole stroke play competition tested the ladies to the hilt. However, the last session of the tournament had to be shortened to 54 holes from the regular 72 holes due to the bad weather conditions.
Anna Nordqvist won the nail-biting finale by two shots when she shot a final-round, 7-under-par on the greens at the Houstonian Golf and Country Club. The win came as a relief to the disruptions caused by the bad weather. The tour still ended on a positive note as 24 events went on schedule for 2010. The task Anna Nordqvist had in front of her was quite challenging as she was up against celebrated golfers like Lorena Ochoa, Na Yeon Choi, Song-Hee Kim, Jiyai Shin and Cristie Kerr. Anna Nordqvist started off on a tough start when she

finished the first round on the greens with a score of 2-under par. The second round on the greens treated Anna Nordqvist better as she managed a score of 4-under par that put her in a more competitive position. Her last round on the greens was the most impressive as she played eight holes in two hours. Anna Nordqvist won her first career major at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship which was presented by Rolex. With this win she joined the ranks of multiple winners on the LPGA Tour that had Jiyai Shin and Lorena Ochoa with 3 wins each and Na Yeon Choi with 2 wins to her credit.
She closed the tournament with a total score of 13-under par and added a whopping $225,000 into her kitty with the win. The win made the Swedish golfer jump 6 spots on the Rolex Rankings. She has now cracked into the top ten on the Rolex Rankings with a total point average of 7.03. The year of 2009 has been quite eventful for the 22 year old as she won the LPGA Championship and now has also bagged the LPGA Tour Championship. Anna Nordqvist has played in a total of 22 events this year and has carried forward her successful amateur career from Europe to the United States. She won the LPGA Championship in just her fifth start on the LPGA. She is definitely a talent to watch out for. Rolex has been a supporter of sports events to encourage talents like Anna Nordqvist. The Swedish golfer Anna Nordqvist was born on the 10 June, 1987 in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Winning her first professional title and major event in the fifth try at the 2009 LPGA, Anna Nordqvist displayed an incredible amount of talent and single-mindedness. Claiming the top spot by four strokes after shooting a final-round of 68 for a total of 15-under-par 273 Anna Nordqvist clinched her first LPGA title. This 6 footer astonished the crowds with her incredible golfing talent and with the help of her powerful drives left the competition far behind. The rookie player Anna Nordqvist was able to convince the spectators that determination and a steadfast focus is all that is required to transform into a champion. She was awarded the championship trophy along with an intricately crafted Rolex watch in recognition of her playability and skill.
