Rolex Junior All-American Alexis Thompson Wins Maiden Polo Golf Junior Classic

Alexis ThompsonThe three-team first-time Rolex Junior All-American Alexis Thompson has finally managed to add to her kitty a win at an American Junior Golf Association Invitational. Though she is the youngest ever female to qualify to be able to play in the U.S. Women’s Open, the victory has always eluded her. After a lot of hard work and determination the young golfer has finally achieved her goal and was extremely ecstatic about her first win. The Coral Springs, Florida resident went up against Victoria Tanco in the finals and carded a 3-and-2 victory.

Since the rains delayed the first as well as second rounds of match play, the semifinals were played on the morning of Nov. 27 while the finals were played in the afternoon. Alexis Thompson defeated A.J. Newell in the semifinals by a 3-and-1 to reach the finals, while Victoria Tanco of Bradenton, Florida defeated Port Washington, New York’s Kelly Shon with a 5-and-3 to move to the finals. The finals were then played between Alexis Thompson and Victoria Tanco who are undoubtedly two of the most dominant players in junior golf. Alexis Thompson was already familiar with her opponent as she had played with her at most tournaments. The familiarity surely turned out to be in Alexis Thompson’s favor as knowing her opponent’s game gave her an edge.

Alexis Thompson picked up an early 2-up lead when she hit back to back birdies on holes No. 3 and 4. However, Victoria Tanco was quick to come back with wins on holes No. 6 and 7. Alexis Thompson did not make a bogey the rest of the way. Victoria Tanco could not get back in the game after her tee shot went into the water on the par 3-15th hole. This sudden turn gave RolexAlexis Thompson the edge she was looking for. The young golfer stated that she came to the Polo Golf Junior Classic with the sole aim of winning it and she did so with sheer confidence. The 14 year old has three American Junior Golf Association wins behind her along with eight top 10s at the American Junior Golf Association Invitationals.

The Polo Golf Junior Classic is the first tournament of what will be an exciting line up for the 2010 season of the American Junior Golf Association. The junior golf event is held each year since it began in the year 1978. The event which is on an invitation only basis witnessed 156 boys and girls on the greens. The players were all between the ages of 12 and 18 from a total of 25 states and 11 foreign countries. Popular names like Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Grace Park and Morgan Pressel have all been former champions of the Polo Golf Junior Classic.

Her brilliant performances have won her the prestige of being named to the Rolex Junior All-American Team. Rolex is now in its third decade of supporting the American Junior Golf Association. Along with junior golf and golf, Rolex also supports sports like sailing, tennis, sports car racing and more to promote human brilliance and pursuit excellence.

14 Year Old Alexis Thompson Leading Rolex Sponsored Navistar LPGA Classic

The biggest competitor that Alexia Thompson is facing in the Navistar LPGA Classic is undoubtedly the leader of the Rolex World Rankings Lorena Ochoa. That she is the best among the rest became evident when she became the first player to hit the 10-under-par mark.

Even among these stars the name that was shining brightest was of none other than Alexia Thompson who through her performance showed what Rolex stands for and ensures that it promotes.
