North America is represented by USA and Canada, and Europe has maximum teams with countries like France, UK, Italy and Switzerland all having their teams. Teams from Hong Kong and New Zealand are also part of the event that from today till 12th September would be entertaining the lovers of sailing and adventure sports alike.

To make the event more interesting the Maxi fleet has been further spilt into five different divisions viz. Cruising/Spirit of Tradition, Mini Maxi Racing, Mini Maxi Racing/Cruising, Racing/Cruising and Wally. From Monday to Saturday the races are going to be held in a way to give the crews chances to push themselves to come at the top.
The most notable feature of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2009 is the fact that who is who of sailing world has descended on the Italian port. Names like Niklas Zennstrom for Great Britain and Hap Fauth for USA are the real attractions of the regatta. Former is the overall winner of 2009 Rolex Fastnet race whereas latter is the current leader of the 209 IMA Mediterranean Circuit. Giving them company are other winners like Andy Soriano, Roger Strugeno, Patrizio Bertelli and the like.
Strengthening the name of Rolex further, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2009 is well on its way to be one of the biggest regattas of the year.
