Anna Tunnicliffe Wins 2009 ISAF Rolex Sailor Of The Year Award

Anna Tunnicliffe

Anna Tunnicliffe has emerged as the undisputed top woman sailor for the year 2009. Being named the Rolex Sailor of the Year has added another feather to her cap. She won from among the list of nominees that included talented woman sailors like Sam Davies (GBR), Hilary Lister (GBR) and Blanca Manchón (ESP). The trophy was presented by HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark who is a regular on the Farr 40 circuit and Lionel Schurch of Rolex SA. In addition to the World Sailor Trophy which is a marble sphere crowned by five silver spinnakers representing the world and its continents Anna Tunnicliffe was also honored with a Rolex Yacht-Master timepiece.

Rolex has been a constant supporter of sailing events and has added to the prestige of the sport. Rolex competitions provide a world-class platform for sportspersons from around the world. Emerging a winner and earning the trophy is a top achievement for any sailor. Anna Tunnicliffe is no stranger to success as she has taken upon herself a variety of challenges across a wide range of boats and disciplines in the past twelve months. She was the winner of a gold medal for USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the Laser Radial competition. She was the first to bring home the US Women’s Olympic sailing medal in the past 20 years. She was recognized for her achievements during the qualifying period of September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009 at the ceremony held at the Busan Yacht Club in Haeundae-gu. Anna Tunnicliffe also won the Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship in Rochester, New York, USA in October. She was the runner-up at the Rolex Osprey Cup held in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA.

Sailor of the year award

Anna Tunnicliffe stated at the awards ceremony that it is not always about winning for her but it is about learning and having fun while doing it. She took the number 1 position at the World Cup event in January 2009, the Rolex Miami OCR and the Women’s Laser Radial North American Championship in February. She won the silver medal at the Laser Midwinters East in February and won the bronze at the ISAF Nations Cup Grand Finale in Porte Alegre, Brazil in March as well as took home the top position in the NYYC Women’s Match Racing Regatta. Her next aim is to win the gold in Match Racing at the London Olympic Games in 2012.

Anna Tunnicliffe has kept herself busy all year round by competing in Match racing as well as Laser sailing. Both disciplines require different set of skills. While Laser sailing is all about team work and synchronizing efforts and collective decisions, Match racing is all about intense pressure and pitching one’s own tactics against one other boat instead of an entire fleet. Anna Tunnicliffe displayed immense ability and talent to switch effectively between both the disciplines. In September she took top position at the US Women’s Match Racing Championship and came second at the Snipe Women’s World Championship in Spain. She was unanimously named US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year in 2008. Her spectacular wins and accumulation of gold medals gave her the undisputed lead in the overall standings and won her the honor.

Team Supercar Life Gives Best Shot At 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series

#55 Supercar Life Team BMW

Team Supercar Life has much to rejoice about as they closed the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series with a bang. Scott Tucker pulled out a performance never before seen as he juggled both cars and managed to get the pair of BMW Riley Daytona Prototypes to finish sixth and eleventh. Rolex events are always full of excitement and action but seeing a driver pull of a stint where he took turns between both the BMW Riley’s was an exceptional feat and performance. With both cars making it to the finish it was a day to remember at Supercar Life.

By setting the fastest times in the qualifying sessions on Thursday and Friday it was quite evident that the team would offer a good show at the finale. And they did not disappoint as the team had a marvelous start by securing the fifth and thirteenth positions. Scott Tucker began the season with Christophe Bouchut in the No. 55 BMW Riley and later in the team’s second entry went on to join his competitor from the IndyCar series Ryan Hunter-Reay.

At one point the team was running first and second with Tucker switching behind wheels. This showcased the competitive spirit of the team and the efforts that they put in. After leading for 12 laps Christophe Bouchut and the No. 55 came in at number six. This further highlighted the amazing talent that he had displayed all season long. While it was the No. 95’s first on-track performance, with Ryan Hunter-Reay behind the wheel it managed an impressive finish at number 11.

The performance and professionalism that Scott Tucker and Christophe Bouchut displayed on the tracks as well as off them is what motivated Ryan Hunter-Reay be a part of their team efforts. The pair of Scott Tucker and Christophe Bouchut always finished within the top 10 in any of the Rolex Sports Car Series events. This made the team a model of consistency. Consistency is something that Rolex has stood for as well. With timepieces that not only guarantee long-term high performance but also look exceptionally brilliant Rolex is a name that has made its mark on the luxury circuit of the world.

Supercar Life Racing Team at Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series

Even he soaring temperatures of 95-degrees plus could not stop Scott Tucker from jumping four spots in the first 10 laps in his No.55 BMW Riley. And at one point he happened to take over Buddy rice who is the former Indianapolis 500 winner, after he had shadowed him for nearly five laps. Scott Tucker, throughout, kept posting lap times faster than even any of the leaders. His fastest lap time for the race was 1:13.885, which became the fourth fastest lap in the field. However, an ill-timed caution flag and a difficult call in the pits kept Supercar Life Racing from tasting victory. The team otherwise was poised for the season’s first victory for itself.

Less than two weeks ago Scott Tucker won his first national championship as a driver in his Supercar Life F430 Challenge Ferrari. After winning the Sports Car Club of America’s National Championship Runoffs he returned to Miami. Scott Tucker will next be flying over to Valencia, Spain in November in order to strengthen his championship in the Ferrari Challenge Series. He already has a 75-point lead in the series point standings.

Rider Strong And Rolex Cosmograph Daytona; In Uniqueness Lies Their Strength

Rider Strong

Rolex watches ever since they have become synonymous with luxury time keepers and offering an experience that is not only eclectic but wholesome as well have had strength imbibed in their workings and commitment to accuracy. When Rolex watches are crafted, the watch makers make sure that every second that goes into making the watch a masterpiece in terms of the precision that they display is invested in making every watch, even if they are types of the same model, have some feature in them that sets them apart from the other watches. The models from the same collection may be similar in design, but the similarity ends there. Where each watch sets ahead of the rest and carry their distinct markers is where the accuracy factor comes in. Rolex watches are not exorbitantly priced for no reason. They demand a price that people invest in; there have been instances when the Rolex watch has been used as a mortgage. This is the kind of promise that a Rolex watch carries. No doubt the Rolex is a heritage, a versatile spirit, which people like to share with family and friends and pass on as an heirloom to the next generation. The Cosmograph Daytona has had an illustrious background setting its story for Rolex wearers to know and invest in, and like a true Rolex watch, the Cosmograph Daytona also combines versatility in its design and performance and makes every penny spent on it, worth all the effort. Rider Strong identifies with this character of versatility with the way he straddles worlds of acting, directing, producing and even dabbling in screenwriting.

Rider Strong began his career in acting with Les Miserables. He also made his appearance on television playing Julie Andrews’ son in Julie.
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Benefit of the Doubt was his first full length feature film and he was subsequently chosen for the role of Shawn Hunter in Boy Meets World. He was nominated twice for Young Artist Award. His other acting credits include Pepper Dennis, Cabin Fever, and currently work on Cabin Fever II. He has also directed Irish Twins, and has also directed a television ad supporting then presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is a watch that is not only a superlative chronometer but also makes a travesty of watches that prioritize design more than performance. This eve rose gold model of the watch is one that has made a distinct mark for itself in the watch arena, it is very different from the typical steel and white gold editions that Rolex specializes in. The eve rose is a color that is subtly classy and when the Rolex enwraps itself around the wearer’s wrist it is sure to attract attention from people around. The bezel of the watch is engraved and standardized in a manner that helps in immediate read off of speeds. The pink dial complements the eve rose color of the watch most perfectly and the Oysterlock bracelet tagged with the self winding movement of the watch perfectly gets along with the minute and hour totalisators that are part of the watch. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is waterproof to 100 meters. The watch calculates both elapsed time and also helps in calculating average speed as well. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is one of those watches that have marked its position as a superior watch that also promises accuracy at all hours and in all situations. Like Rider Strong, in versatility lies the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona’s strength.

Lucas Grabeel And Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Wait As Success Catches Up With Them

Lucas Grabeel

Success like Lady Luck is an extremely elusive concept that only catches up with you once you have stopped pursuing it. Hence people and entities that are really good at what they do rarely wait for success to catch up with them, they do what they do in the best possible manner and when success catches up with them they welcome it most graciously. Rolex watches as a brand name today may not have to do much pursuing but when they were starting up and the road ahead was strewn with competition and obstacles Rolex made a vow to settle for only the best and in the process deliver only the best. Rolex stuck by their commitment and to this day the success that they have garnered is as well deserved as it comes. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has drawn inspiration from the Rolex ideology, making it its own and creating for itself a platform when it has to consistently deliver accuracy and superior performance. For an actor like Lucas Grabeel, talent has been a multiply defined term. The actor has dabbled in singing, song writing, producing and directing, wanting to explore every detail that went into making a complete film. The young man has a determination and a dream in his eyes that makes success run after him and not the other way round.

Lucas Grabeel made a name for himself when he displayed his potential in the High School Musical series. He not only acted and danced in the multiple films but also lent his vocal talent to the films. Lucas Grabeel also recorded tracks for the Fox and the Hound 2 soundtrack, the singer also co-wrote and vocalized the song You Got It. Lucas Grabeel’s acting talents has been captured very successfully in Boston Legal, Smallville, Veronica Mars and ‘Till Death. Lucas Grabeel also played an important character role in the award winning film Milk. Another film of his that is very popular with his fans is College Road Trip. Lucas Grabeel has also associated himself with noble causes making an appearance at Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event which was raising money against AIDS apathy.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is a superlative chronometer that combines time keeping and the art of watch making perfectly in its robust structure and Rolex puts its heart and soul into the construction of this particular watch. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is an ideal watch for measuring the elapsed time and also calculates average speed with extreme accuracy. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona also has a sweep second hand that teams with minute and hour totalisators. However the special feature of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is the graduated tachometer bezel that the watch sports. This bezel is also special because it incorporates an engraved and calibrated feature that is very helpful in the immediate read off of speeds. The eve rose gold finish of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is the other more striking feature that also defines the watch. The bracelet of the watch is also an Oysterlock that features Oysterclasp with an Easylink. The self wound movement of the watch and the fact that it is waterproof to 100 meters also teams together an eclectic and efficient performer of a watch. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is a watch that like Lucas Grabeel takes performance to a level where it no longer has to pursue success but the latter chases it.

Another Interesting Day At Rolex Big Boat Series

Rolex Boat Series From the very first race of the first day Rolex Big Boat Series has been challenging the sailors to push to their limits and enthralling the fans all across world. In every step of the way this year’s Rolex Big Boat Series has turned out to be more than what initial expectations have been. All days and every race once again brought to the forefront the very philosophy and values that Rolex believes in, stands for and endeavors to highlight by promoting events like the Rolex Big Boat Series.

The third of the Rolex Big Boat Series turned out to be nothing like anyone had expected. In fact right from the morning it had become apparent that the day was going to not just different but markedly difficult. As more than 1000 sailors and their countless fans witnessed the large area of thunderstorms moving in the morning the increase in challenge and competition became a surety. The entire course was engulfed with a dense fog which brought the visibility down drastically to become a big potential hindrance to the sailors. If that was not all then wind speed also fell significantly to make it one of the most difficult days in the recent sailing history.

The regatta is held in the world famous city of San Francisco and is organized by the St. Francis Yacht Club. The fans from the city and around and world over had gathered to be there at the famous Rolex Big Boat Series. Those who know the weather of San Francisco knew and even acknowledged that it had never been same in the city and all signs were for the day to be really difficult for the teams and their crews.

For Rolex it was a day full of pride as sailors were all set to give in their best and everyone was ready to fight it out. Rolex believes in offering people a platform and an opportunity to test and realize their abilities and potential and that is precisely what the day three at Rolex Big Boat Series seemed to be headed to.

Rolex Boat Series The first race of the third day at Rolex Big Boat Series can be best defined as a highly competitive race and was won by the team of Tom Akin and Mark Jones on their boat Flash. It was a satisfying victory for the duo that also went on to finish at the third place in the subsequent race. Two great finishes meant that they are now placed only one point behind in the leaders in the IRC A class which is none other than Jim Mitchell’s custom 52.

Other classes also witnessed great competition and many places were interchanged on the overall leader’s tables. Kjeld Hestehave’s Velos was the fastest in the IRC B class whereas there was no challenge to the Elan 40 Tupelo Honey in the IRC D class as Gerard Sheridan kept other sailors at bay quite comfortably.

More or less similar scenes were witnessed in the different classes with the purpose that attracts Rolex to get involved with events like Rolex Big Boat Series only getting served better.

Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event; Rescheduling Dates For The Future

Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event

Rolex is a brand name that is far beyond just manufacturing watches. Apart from delivering watches that are par excellence, Rolex has been contributing a lot towards the progress of humanity. The number of events that it sponsors every year has been successful in uniting people from all over the world. One of the many such events is the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event. It is an eventing competition and as the name implies it is held in Kentucky at the Kentucky Horse Park. It is the only four star show in the US and the level of competition that is involved in this spectacular event is considered to be as high as eventing at the Olympics. Kentucky Three Day Event has attained the similar status as that of Rolex in terms of popularity and class. The total prize money of the event is a lavish $190,000 which gets distributed among the top rankers of the event. The first place horse and rider also get a precious Rolex watch apart from an amount of $65000.

The three-day event was first organized in 1998 by the Equestrian Events Inc. and with it a new era began in the history of eventing. It usually occurs in the month of April or May and includes competitions like dressage, cross-country and show-jumping and although the name of the event specifies three days but owing to the large number of entries that is received every year, the event continues to take place over four days. With every new season, the number of participants and spectators began to increase tremendously and with it the prize money too reached unbelievable heights.

The popularity of the event and with it the level of competition rose to such a level that in 2000, it became the first Four Star rated event of the new millennium. Rolex Kentucky was the world’s only event to have the primary Olympic Officials as Ground Jury, Technical Delegate and Course Designer and it also became the primary U.S. Equestrian Team Olympic Games Selection Trial.

Lucinda Fredericks

In the year 2009, woman riders dominated the entire event. Australia’s Lucinda Fredericks went on to become the big winner after a double-clear round in show jumping, finishing on their dressage score of 32.3. Another woman from Germany called Bettina Hoy went to take the second position with her 18 year old Irish Sport Horse and a final score of 38.4.

At times due to date clashes between some of the popular sporting events, the number of spectators began to divide. Keeping this important fact in mind the organizers of Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event and the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials have decided to reschedule their dates for the coming seven years. The dates have been organized in such a way that if in one year Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event is held in the month of April, Badminton starts in the month of May. In this way spectators of both the events can enjoy them with full enthusiasm and excitement without having to suffer from the problem of date clashes.

As a champion for the cause of pursuing excellence, Rolex is proud to continually support the most popular equestrian competition in the world, the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event.
