Ashton Kutcher: A Rolex Man On The Set And Off The Set

Ashton KutcherArguably the hottest young star in Hollywood today because of his dual success with acting and producing, Ashton Kutcher wears a Rolex watch both on and off the set. In his recent commercial for Nikon, Ashton takes pictures at a wedding with a classic white dial Rolex Milgauss on his wrist. When Jonathan Ross interviewed him last year on a London talk show, Ashton Kutcher also wore the white dial Rolex Milgauss. Did Ashton keep the watch for himself after the commercial shoot or was this an extension of his contract? Since stars rarely do television interviews about commercials or in connection with commercial promotions, clearly his passion for the Rolex Milgauss carried over into his regular life. Beyond the television appearance, Ashton Kutcher has been photographed on several occasions, alongside his beautiful wife Demi Moore, wearing what appears to be a stainless steel Rolex Explorer with the classic black dial.  Pondering the timepiece selection, it makes perfect sense that Ashton Kutcher would choose a Rolex Explorer as his everyday watch, following in the footsteps of Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The Rolex Explorer conveys the essence of the adventure and serendipity that has come to define the impressive career of the young star.

Ashton KutcherIn 1997, Ashton Kutcher was a biochemical engineering student at the University of Iowa, working at General Mills sweeping Cheerio dust from the floor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for $12 an hour. Ashton Kutcher grew up in rural Homestead, Iowa, graduating from Clear Creek-Amana High School in the middle of what is known as the heartland of America. While working at the factory, Kutcher entered the Fresh Faces of Iowa modeling contest and won a trip to New York City to pursue a contract with model agencies in 1997. After a brief turn strutting for Calvin Klein, Kutcher landed his breakthrough role as airhead Michael Kelso in That ’70s Show. He actually wore a tie to work on the set of the television series That ’70’s show. As he explained to In Style, “It’s a way to keep things in perspective. Acting can be so much fun that it’s easy to forget that what you’re doing is a job. But if I’ve got my tie on, I’m going to work.” Leveraging his good looks and goofball appeal, Ashton Kutcher created Punk’d, the MTV hidden-camera show in which he played pranks on fellow celebrities. Some wondered if he was “punking” them when he began dating sexy puma actress Demi Moore, 15 years his senior, but the couple expressed their lasting commitment when they married in 2005. Demi Moore’s children from her previous marriage to Bruce Willis call Kutcher MOD, short for “my other dad.” As for his vibrant career, Ashton stars in feature films, produces sitcoms and reality shows on network television, and twitters away about his life to his sea of loyal fans. Although the Rolex Milgauss is an incredible professional timepiece, it fits Ashton better on the set than in real life. Off the set, without question, the Rolex Explorer is the luxury watch that best represents the exciting achievements of his young career.

A Perfect Match: Lil Wayne and The Gold Rolex Day Date President

Lil WayneWhen Lil Wayne tore up Los Angeles on April 29, 2009, performing an awesome live show at the Gibson Amphitheatre, was the hip-hop superstar wearing a Rolex?

The question is essential because the top rapper in the world should be wearing nothing less than the top luxury watch. When the London Grime-founder DJ Wiley asks who is wearing his Rolex in the 2008 smash hit, he makes the implication that every performer of true substance should be wearing a Rolex watch on their wrist. In a recent interview, DJ Wiley was asked which celebrity out there he would allow to wear his Rolex. With a smile, DJ Wiley replied: “I don’t know. Let me think. Not still Halle Berry? But yeah, I would let her wear it for a day. . . As for Hip-hop, I like Lil Wayne because he’s not scared to say anything, to speak his mind.” The problem with Lil Wayne is that he has this strange habit of wearing big loud bling bling watches with no class or precision. In the multitude of publicity shots of the star, there is only a single photo where Lil Wayne is wearing a gold Rolex Day Date Presidential. Upon seeing the photograph, the reaction of any true fan is a bingo-like realization, a diamond bullet to the brain reminiscent of Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now: Here is an 18k gold Rolex wristwatch that matches the powerful presence of a hip-hop superstar like Lil Wayne!

Lil Wayne broke into the big time with 2004’s Tha Carter and the two subsequent albums, Tha Carter II (2005) and Tha Carter III (2008). Tha Carter III led to a windstorm of critical praise, including eight Grammy Award nominations. Lil Wayne’s anticipated rock album, Rebirth, will feature cameos from some of the biggest names in the rock industry and is scheduled to be released in 2009. According to Rolling Stone, Lenny Kravitz, Avril Lavigne and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy will be appearing on the album. Lil Wayne’s choice to dabble in rock has been met with raised eyebrows, but the rapper is not letting outside opinions sway his diamond focus on being the very best that he can be. “Wayne knows some people aren’t gonna feel this,” Cortez Bryant, Lil Wayne’s manager, told Rolling Stone. “He don’t care.” Lil Wayne is not only a rapper and possible rock ‘n roll star, but he is also an educated man as well. Even with his tremendous success as a rap star, Lil Wayne is proud that he managed to find the time to go back to school. After earning his GED in 2004, Lil Wayne enrolled at the University of Houston in January 2005 with plans to major in political science. To earn his degree, he began taking online courses while touring the world. An article in Urb magazine in March 2007 asserted that Lil Wayne had been earning high grades at Houston. The subsequent flood of press and attention, however, led to Wayne discontinuing his education at the school. The hip-hop star has continued to take courses online. With tabloid reports of drugs arrests and a bad boy attitude, Lil Wayne has developed a wild reputation for living at the edge of the so-called civilized world. In truth, he is an accomplished performer and a canny executive who has created a blazing music career that deserves nothing but the best. Without question, Little Wayne should be wearing a Rolex watch to signify his performance and power. In addition, it is not surprising that Little Wayne made the perfect choice in the past: The 18k gold Rolex Day Date Presidential is the luxury wristwatch for a truly successful man on the move.

Zac Efron Reveals His Readiness To Play Adult Roles With a Vintage Rolex At The Academy Awards.

At his first Oscar appearance accompanied by girlfriend and High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron wore a tuxedo by Dolce & Gabbana accessorized with a vintage Rolex watch. The vintage Rolex watch is the perfect symbol of Zac Efron’s attempt to transition beyond the cage of teen idol stardom. When his new film, 17 Again, premiered in London, Zac Efron wore the vintage Rolex watch again when was met by a mass of screaming teenage. Trying to be heard above the screams, Zac Efron said: “It’s insane. This is the biggest one yet. It’s crazy.” In the new comedy about a man who travels back in time to relive his youth, the 21-year old teen idol plays the younger version of Matthew Perry’s character - a frustrated and unfulfilled 37-year-old father of two. The role marks a break away from the high school scenes he has become synonymous with in the past. Zac Efron is looking forward to the reaction of his fan base: “I can’t wait to see what everybody thinks… this is a movie to bring along the fans… I want to bring them along to a new adventure.” A sign of this desire to change came out when he was asked if he would be prepared to do a full frontal nude scene. Zac Efron did not rule it out when told reporters: “I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know.” In other words, like Daniel Radcliffe (otherwise known as Harry Potter) who shocked his fans when he appeared naked in West End production of Equus, Zac Efron is ready to do whatever it takes to make the transition, and wearing a vintage Rolex is a symbol of that dedication.

Of course, there is a time in every teen idol’s life when he must leave the screaming teenagers behind and make an actual go as an adult actor. Zac Efron officially has arrived at that moment as the Academy Awards entrance with the vintage Rolex watch revealed. With his traditional Boy Scout good looks and the Disney-designed romance with Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron has never been taken seriously. When Rolling Stone declared him the “New American Heartthrob” in 2007, Zac Efron commented in the innocuous cover story: “As long as I stay boring, I think I’ll be fine.” Today, however, Zac Efron is changing, and the image he presented at the Oscars with his vintage Rolex reflects this change. In Interview Magazine, the teen idol tried to loosen the shackles of his pretty boy image with the aid of the ultimate magazine of hip style: The bohemian cover announced like a pop cultural oracle: “Zac Efron Is the Future.” In the interview, which was conducted by independent director Gus Van Sant, a man whose stamp of approval is so coveted by young Hollywood that it became a plotline in HBO’s Entourage, Zac Efron discusses his upcoming period film with Richard Linklater, Me and Orson Welles, and his desire to escape the cage of teen idoldom. Isn’t there something strangely exciting about a teen idol attempting to break free of the chains of a heartthrob? For Zac Efron, however, it remains quite the gamble for a star whose fame depends on the adulation of the teenage girls who adore him because he is their sweet, harmless, and cuddly puppy. Without question, the overwhelming success of the High School Musical trilogy confirms that kids still crave the Harlequin romance version of sexuality. Trying to transition into a more grown-up role is the sword on which so many beloved teen idols have fallen. Can Zac Efron pull a Johnny Depp and become a respected A-list actor, or will he wind up as the next David Cassidy, impaled on the teen idol blade of his Partridge Family success? Whatever the outcome, by wearing a vintage Rolex and refining his image at the Academy Awards and his London film premiere, Zac Efron has taken a step in the right direction.

In The Footsteps Of The Hans Wilsdorf Foundation Rises The Philanthropic Vision Of Bill Gates

Hans Wilsdorf, the late founder of Rolex, and Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, can be described as two very similar men in respects to their business instincts and their philanthropic visions. Although they respectively started two of the most influential and powerful companies of the modern age, their charitable works just might come to define the true legacies of these revolutionary entrepreneurs. The Hans Wilsdorf Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation both help to confront and solve the world’s most challenging and persistent problems. A great visionary as an entrepreneur, Hans Wilsdorf foresaw the shift away from pocket watches so he developed the first quality wristwatch, registering the name Rolex in 1908. The incredible innovative history of Rolex is well known. What is not as well known is that at the time of his death in 1960, Hans Wilsdorf owned all of Rolex. When it comes to giving back in the form of charity and cultural support, philanthropy became an intrinsic part of the Rolex culture and philosophy. Upon the death of his wife in 1944, Wilsdorf established the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation in which he left all of his Rolex shares, making sure that a large percentage of the company’s income would go to charity. The company is still owned by a private trust, and shares are not traded on any stock exchange. The foundations funnels much of the profits generated by Rolex into charitable endeavors. These proceeds discretely go to children’s charities around the world (Hans Wilsdorf was an orphan) and to innovative entrepreneurial and cultural endeavors.

Following in the footsteps of Hans Wilsdorf, Bill Gates is a visionary businessman who revolutionized the personal computer business. Recently, Bill Gates has embraced a new vision through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Established by the chairman of Microsoft and his wife, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works in developing countries to improve health and reduce poverty and in the US to support education and libraries nationwide and children and families in the Pacific Northwest. With an endowment of about $30 billion in 2009, the foundation is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world. To maintain its status as a charitable foundation, it must donate at least 5% of its assets each year. As a result, the donations from the foundation each year amount to over $1.5 billion at a minimum. The scale of the foundation and the way it seeks to apply business techniques to giving makes it one of the leaders in the philanthrocapitalism revolution in global philanthropy. Investor Warren Buffett has announced plans to give the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation about $30 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock in installments, the first of which was received in 2006.
In a statement letter on the foundation’s website, Bill and Melinda Gates write, “We created the Gates Foundation in 2000 because we believe in the principle that every human life has equal worth. The life of an impoverished child in a developing country is as precious as the life of a middle-class kid in a developed one. A family struggling to make ends meet in an American inner city matters as much as a family thriving in a safe, suburban neighborhood. Today, billions of people never even have the chance to live a healthy, productive life. We want to help all people get that opportunity. We know it can be done because this is a unique moment in history: Scientific and technological advances are making it possible to solve big, complicated problems like never before. If these advances are focused on the problems of the people with the most urgent needs and the fewest champions, then within this century billions of people will grow up healthier, get a better education, and gain the power to lift themselves out of poverty.” Like the creation of the Hans Wilsdorf foundation by the founder of Rolex, Bill Gates realized that his incredible wealth could be used to help fulfill the basic promise that all lives have equal value. By applying the principles that made both Rolex and Microsoft such successful enterprises, both Hans Wilsdorf in his lifetime and Bill Gates today have added a new and lasting dimension to global philanthropy.

Update: Who Really Bought The Rolex Watches — Star Lindsay Lohan or Galpal Samantha Ronson?

Okay, it is true, we have written two past blogs about Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson and their Rolex watches. However, the situation just keeps getting stranger and stranger, demanding updates to the ongoing story. When Lindsay Lohan dropped $53,000 on a watch-shopping spree at Philippe’s Watches & Jewelry in Beverly Hills, we reported that she spent her own money. According to sources, the actress dropped the 53K in about 45 minutes–on three Rolex watches. The watches included one Rolex rose-gold President watch with a diamond dial (retail price at $30,000), one Daytona stainless steel and yellow-gold watch with a black mother-of-pearl dial at $15,000. The third was a gift, a stainless steel Rolex with black diamond skull in the center at $8,000. We have learned, however, Lindsay actually did not spend or even have the money. It was her lover Samantha Ronson who anted up big-time, and she quickly is becoming fed up with Lindsay Lohan’s wild spending habits. Lindsay Lohan reportedly is down to her last few dollars, with no film project in sight, over-spending habits and dependency on her lover Samantha Ronson for handouts. “She has no cash. The problem is, the money being spent is mostly Sam’s because Lindsay doesn’t really have any of her own at the moment; she’s really taken on the “man” role in their romance. Sam really thinks Lindsay needs to learn how to become a recessionista and manage her money better,” her friend told The New York Daily News. Evidence that the unemployed actress has been spending above her means includes the new Rolex watches from an ultra-expensive Beverly Hills boutique ($53,000) and a new Maserati (over $145,000). Not that Lindsay Lohan likes being out of work, especially with such an appetite for spending: “It’s scary when you realize, ‘Oh my God, I’m not working. And I have a house to pay for now’.”

Despite these fears, Lindsay Lohan is sick of being tabloid fodder. In a chat with E!, the actress reacted to recent reports that she is penniless and to the rumors that she and galpal Samantha Ronson fight all the time about money. “They need to stop saying we’re fighting,” the I Know Who Killed Me star tells E! News, “I’m really a good person and I have a good heart. . . . I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs and I don’t lie.” Lindsay Lohan, who reportedly is having trouble getting any acting jobs, says, “I want to help people by playing characters that can send a positive message out to whomever may need it.” Whatever the truth, Lindsay Lohan’s troubles underscore just how hard it can be for celebrities to live up to the fancy-dancy life they come to expect. According to financial planners, the rich and famous often fail to plan for the fact that their income is unstable, often peaking early in life, as well as stand up to the many hangers-on that ask for support. If she were smart like you, she would have bought her new Rolex watches at Melrose Jewelers where she could have obtained the same quality timepieces for a third of the cost, saving over $30,000. Yes, you can wear a beautiful Rolex watch studded with diamonds and you do not have to be a rich celebrity or a multi-millionaire to do it. With the expertise and precision of Melrose Jewelers, you can have your Rolex watch without ending up in the poorhouse.

Update: Davide Blei Vintage Rolex Auction Brings In More Than $3.7 Million Dollars

In February of 2009, the Melrose Jewelers Rolex Blog reported on the upcoming auction of the Davide Blei Vintage Rolex Auction. On March 22, Patrizzi and Co of Geneva, Switzerland, held the auction of the collection of Vintage Rolexes in Milan. The incredibly successful event brought in more than $3.7 million dollars, with all but one of 114 Rolexes in the collection selling. Some 200 bidders attended the Milan auction, with almost 100 participating online. Bidding was strong with written bids coming in right up to the last minute. Who says we are in a recession when it comes to buying Rolex watches? The sales results demonstrated that there is an active, strong demand and enthusiasm for fine timepieces. The top lot of the sale was a stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual made in 1953 and fetching $268,637. A pink gold Stelline sold for $204,597, and a pink gold Oyster Chronograph made in 1950 sold for $105,042, almost double its estimate. Founded last year, Patrizzi and Co. operates headquarters in Geneva, and offices in Milan and New York. The auction house does not charge a buyer’s commission; so all figures reflect the hammer price. According to the auction house, the David Blei collection was considered one of the most important collections of vintage Rolexes, particularly in terms of quality and aesthetic appeal. Each of the 114 watches were of exceptional quality and rarity, the auction house said. The one watch left unsold was due to an Internet buyer exceeding his limit. Overall, the auction reveals what a great investment a Rolex watch can be, as Davide Blei knows as well as anyone in the world.

From the beginning, Davide Blei collected only the very best examples of what he believes is the most important watch brand in existence – Rolex. “I chose Rolex for the beauty of their watches,” says Blei. “Rolex are not as well known for their internal mechanisms as for their extremely beautiful cases and dials - the way they combine these two major elements of a watch is pure excellence. They have a wonderful way of putting color, metals, and tones together.” When he started collecting, he did not understand the intricate workings of watch mechanisms, but as his passion grew, he bought books and studied watchmaking. After a few years, he began to appreciate what is important and why: “If you have passion then it’s not very difficult to learn.” His hunger to satisfy his passion and his cosmopolitan curiosity led him to attend auctions all around the world – Hong Kong, Japan, New York, and Geneva – buying the best pieces at these sales. One of the many aspects that attracted Davide Blei to Rolex watches was their unquestioned purity and beauty. “You can clearly see a sense of technicity and mastery of their art in their unique dials,” says Blei. “Rolex made dials that nobody else made – triple scale, telemeter, Daytona, different colors in the scale – all absolutely unique dials.” An avid collector Davide Blei believes that collecting is all a matter of taste, “You cannot teach taste,” he says, “you either have it or you don’t.” And clearly, Blei has exquisite taste - as his Rolex Collection testifies. The incredible reaction to the sale and the amount of money made reveals that beyond the challenges of the current economy, Rolex watches continue to be a smart investment.

Virtuoso Violinist Yehudi Menuhin Kept Time With A Gold Rolex Day Date

In his lifetime, violinist Yehudi Menuhin recognized the value of each precious day; to keep track of the time, he wore an 18k gold Rolex Day Date wristwatch. As a Rolex ambassador, he expressed the essential role that keeping proper time had both in the arena of music and in the world of politics. When the time finally stopped and he died in 1999, the incredible virtuoso had evolved from a child prodigy to a living legend to the eternal status of a musical institution. Extravagant tribute was paid, both in his lifetime and after his passing, “to the musician and especially the man” (from a classic radio tribute at the time of his death) who was Yehudi Menuhin. They praised Yehudi Menuhin the violinist, the phenomenon who simultaneously astounded America between the wars while he created one of the masterpieces of the 20th century - Bartok’s Sonata for solo violin. Yehudi Menuhin primarily was an American phenomenon, the first child violin prodigy to come from the New World and become famous there. There is thus no definitive interpretation for Yehudi Menuhin’s musical expression. It can be described as the search for repose, for naturally, where it can breathe more than show off. This opening of musical feeling beyond technique and schools, this fierce desire to gather music at the source; it is in this sense that Yehudi Menuhin’s lesson remains exemplary.

Near the end of his life, Yehudi Menuhin confessed to the New York Times that performing had become more challenging. He eloquently described this change: “It becomes both easier and harder — easier because I know very clearly what I’m about. It becomes harder simply as a function of age. My contribution is not only musicianship,” he continued, “it’s a sense of style. Young musicians often play the notes clearly and cleanly, but classical music needs interpretation. That’s where I feel I can be useful.” In addition, Yehudi Menuhin was never shy about expressing his political views. California, the state where he grew up, drastically cut budgets for music schools at the end of his life: “They never cut taxes, they cut budgets, art and culture, whatever it’s worth living for.” Yehudi Menuhin’s own school of music was privately financed, but British students received the normal state subsidy from the Government. “With 48 musicians, we have six little quartets,” he said proudly, amazed that so many would choose to play in ensembles rather than as soloists. As his life was drawing to a close, the virtuoso child prodigy was most anxious to teach young musicians how to play well together. In addition, to make sure his students showed up on time, Yehudi Menuhin always made sure to wear his 18k gold Rolex Day Date wristwatch.

If all he could do were play the violin and teach his students, that surely would have been enough. Yehudi Menuhin’s enthusiasm, however, extended much further. When he traveled the world to delight audiences with his virtuoso performances, he would study the indigenous music of each new country. As a result, it was just as likely that a concert performance would feature Ravi Shankar or Stephane Grappelli as with a full orchestra. Beyond the reach of his performance, Yehudi Menuhin used his music as a medium for promoting humanitarian causes. In honor of such efforts, he was awarded an honorary Knighthood in England, the Legion of Honor in France, the Belgian Ordre de la Couronne, the Order of Merit from West Germany, and the Nehru Peace Award from India. Even with such an incredible array of awards, his most precious possessions during his lifetime remained his violins. During his lifetime, he owned such rare masterworks as a Stradivarius, a Guarnerius Del Gesu, and a Capicchioni. The one constant that remained and the one instrument that never changed was Yehudi Menuhin’s dedication to his 18k gold Rolex Day-Date watch. Rolex expressed their true appreciation that such a genius would become a Rolex ambassador when they wrote in 1984, “That such a man as Yehudi Menuhin should choose a Rolex above all others as his personal timepiece is, surely, all the satisfaction we could ever ask.”

French Chef Paul Bocuse Uses A Rolex Day-Date For Perfect Timing

Rolex has employed many sporting greats as Ambassadors of the Rolex brand, ranging from Arnold Palmer to Roger Federer. In 1978, Rolex exhibited true ingenuity by using world-renowned French Chef Paul Bocuse in a print advertisement for the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date. In the advertisement, Paul Bocuse was quoted: “There is no fine cooking without perfect timing.” Indeed, just like any sportsman, a cook needs exact timing so it makes perfect sense that Paul Bocuse would use a Rolex watch to keep the time. If Rolex was going to be represented by a Chef, who better to pick than Paul Bocuse, the inventor of nouvelle cuisine. Born into a long line of father-son chef teams, Paul Bocuse is arguably the most famous French chef of the 20th century. In 1944, he was shot in battle during World War II, and, in 1975, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor. Paul Bocuse is widely credited with being one of the first chefs to emerge from the kitchen and to enter public life, promoting French cuisine, starting restaurants and culinary institutions around the world. Paul Bocuse is one of the most prominent chefs associated with the nouvelle cuisine, which is less opulent and calorific than the traditional haute cuisine and stresses the importance of fresh ingredients of the highest quality. He avoided the use of heavy cream and butter sauces, using simpler recipes, market-fresh food and emphasized natural flavors and textures. This nouvelle cuisine caught on with many younger chefs, and Bocuse became an ambassador of French cuisine, traveling around the world giving classes. The Chef recalls that Henri Gault first used the term, nouvelle cuisine, to describe food prepared by Bocuse and other top chefs for the maiden flight of the Concorde airliner in 1969. In 1975, he created the world famous soupe aux truffes (truffle soup) for a presidential dinner at the Elysee Palace.

Paul Bocuse has made key contributions to French gastronomy and world cuisine both directly and indirectly. Bocuse has had numerous students, many of whom have become famous chefs themselves. One of his students was Eckart Witzigmann, the first German chef to receive three Michelin stars. Since 1987, the Bocuse D’Or has been regarded as the most prestigious award for chefs in the world (at least when French food is considered), and is sometimes seen as the unofficial world championship for chefs. Finalists in the 21st Bocuse d’Or found themselves engaged in a daunting trial of their talent and skills. Beneath the attentive gaze of a large audience, 24 experienced cooks did their utmost to appeal to the expert taste-buds of an international jury composed of the world’s finest experts, chaired by the legend commonly referred to as “the chef of the century” and the “pope of gastronomy”, Paul Bocuse. Paul Bocuse was honored in 1961 with the title Meilleur Ouvrier de France. His father George Bocuse, had been apprenticed to Fernand Point, a master of classic French cuisine. Paul Bocuse comes from a long line of French chefs and restaurateurs dating back to 1765. After working under several noted chefs, he took over his family’s failing restaurant near Lyon, and saved it from ruin. His family nickname was ‘primate of the palate’. Paul Bocuse’s lasting creation is the luxury restaurant l’Auberge du Pont de Collonges, near Lyon, which has been serving a traditional menu for decades. Located four kilometers north of Lyon on the banks of the Saône near the Pont de Collonges, this family house has become an obligatory stopping point for gourmets from every corner of the globe. It is one of a small number of restaurants in France to receive the coveted three-star rating by the Michelin Guide. Paul Bocuse has achieved such excellence by wearing a Rolex Day-Date and making sure his culinary creations are perfectly timed.

Elizabeth Hurley (”Liz” In The Media) Loves Celebrity Charity and High Fashion, Rolex Watches and Valentino Couture

Elizabeth Hurley, who is simply known as “Liz” by the media and her fascinated fans, loves to be seen on the town, dressed to the nines and wearing a gold Rolex watch. Whether in Hollywood or London, New Delhi or Milan, Liz Hurley always is photographed at the best parties and the most celebrated events. Her gold 18k Rolex President goes with any outfit and makes sure that she arrives on time. Beyond the celebrity fast lane of fame and fortune, Austin Powers and Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Hurley spends a lot of her time finding ways to give back through charity and public appearances. Recently, Elizabeth Hurley donated a picture of her son to appear on a British stamp. Six-year-old Damian is seen dressed in a T-shirt and multi-colored hat in the photo. Liz said: “The images I have chosen mean a lot to me as a mother and it is great that my photography can be used in a way that benefits others.” The picture was turned into a limited edition stamp to raise money for the domestic violence charity, Women’s Aid. A Royal Mail representative said: “This is the third year we have run this auction. It has proved to be so popular that we invited Elizabeth to come on board for 2009 and are keen to raise as much money as possible for these worthwhile causes.” The two postage stamps of Damien, featuring signed photos of the actress, sold by auction on eBay for over £1,550. When Elizabeth Hurley believes in a cause, she does her best to take action and help the less fortunate.

Yes, Elizabeth Hurley does give back in the philanthropic tradition of the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, but she always knows how to give the very best to herself as well. When it came time to get married, Elizabeth Hurley chose an amazing spot for her wedding: the Umaid Bhawan Palace in India, which is made of yellow stone and marble. It was commissioned by Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present Maharaja, in 1929. He wanted to find jobs for his people so he paid 11 million rupees (a fortune at the time) for 3,000 workers to toil for 15 years. Clearly, Liz Hurley thinks it was worth every single rupee: she rode an elephant across the lawns of the 26-acre gardens to a flower-strewn gazebo to marry multi-millionaire Arun Nayar. When she became a new wife, her husband must have emphasized the importance of being on time because Liz Hurley has been pictured on multiple occasions with her husband by her side and her gold 18k Rolex President on her wrist. Even as a married woman, Liz Hurley still hangs out with the A-list. When the Wall Street Journal recently reviewed the opening of a new documentary about superstar designer Valentino, the writer wrote: “There’s no doubt that Valentino Garavani, founder of the $1 billion-plus fashion brand that bears his name, is a living relic of “La Dolce Vita.” To enter the orbit of Valentino is to join a world of skiing in Gstaad, debating over hand-stitched sequin strips for couture dresses and hosting glamorous parties attended by A-list celebrities from Liz Taylor to Liz Hurley.” Indeed, as an A-list celebrity, Liz Hurley attends the most fabulous parties and events in the world, and she usually wears her gold Rolex President to make sure she arrives fashionably late.

Mary-Kate Olson: Fashion Icon With A Rolex

Mary-Kate Olson is a modern fashion icon that often is photographed by the paparazzi sporting a white-faced stainless steel Rolex watch and a red dial gold Rolex watch. Best known as one half of the world famous Olson Twins, Mary-Kate Olson and Ashley Fuller Olson (born June 13, 1986) are American actors and performers, best known for playing the role of Michelle Tanner on the hit television sitcom Full House. Sitcoms often employ twins to play child parts because it allows the production to work longer hours without violating the child labor laws. Both sisters have appeared on television and in films since infancy. After their early success on Full House, they have continued their celebrity through numerous television gigs, films, and commercial endorsements. Although they are fraternal twins (not identical), they prefer the term individual pair, revealing their demanding and peculiar Hollywood sensibilities. Still, the twins were so popular in the preteen market, their names became a cottage industry, and their likeness has been used and seen in clothes, books, fragrances, magazines, movies and posters. There were even Mary-Kate and Ashley fashion dolls made by Mattel (the maker of Barbie and G. I. Joe) from 2000 to 2005.

In her adult life, Mary-Kate Olson has separated from her sister and developed a reputation as the wild member of the family. Going beyond the silly romantic comedies they shot together, Mary-Kate’s first acting appearance without Ashley was in the movie Factory Girl, which was released in December 2006 and told the tragic tale of Edie Sedgwick’s roller-coaster ride in Any Warhol’s Factory. Mary-Kate Olson was originally in several scenes, but only appeared in the background in the finished film. Mary-Kate has also a recurring guest role in the third season of the controversial Showtime series Weeds.

In the 2008 independent film The Wackness, she shared a passionate kiss with the much older star of the movie, Ben Kingsley. Whoever thought little Mary-Kate Olson would end up kissing Gandhi? As both sisters have matured, they developed separate styles. As young adults on the cutting edge of the popular culture, there has been growing interest in their fashion choices. In fact, the New York Times declared Mary-Kate Olson a fashion icon for pioneering her signature “homeless” look. The style, sometimes referred to as “ashcan”, is now popular among celebrities and fans alike. Fashionistas have pointed out the similarity of the style to that of the Bohemian chic popularized in Great Britain by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Of course, Sienna Miller played the role of Edie Sedgwick in the movie Factory Girl, giving Mary-Kate Olson a direct link to the young British star. Both looks consist of oversized sunglasses, boots, loose sweaters, and flowing skirts in order to create an aesthetic of mixing the high end with the low end. Mary-Kate Olson presents this mixture better than anyone does by wearing her beautiful Rolex watches. Nothing takes the “homeless look” to the next level than the contrast of wearing a luxurious Rolex watch side-by-side with the low-end intrusions. In the end, Mary-Kate Olson is not only a fashion icon, but also a Rolex fashion pioneer as well.
