About the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust

Introduced in 1945, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust is Rolex’s flagship wristwatch model and the best selling luxury wristwatch (of any brand) in history.  The Datejust carries a great deal of significance as it was launched by Rolex to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Wilsdorf & Davis—the original name of the Rolex corporation.

The Oyster Perpetual Datejust was one of the first Rolex watch models to display the date on its dial and, furthermore, was one of the first timepieces to use stored kinetic energy to continuously and accurately update its movement.

The Datejust has three main distinguishing features: it displays the date, it is available in stainless steel or two-tone (18k gold and stainless steel), and it has either a jubilee or oyster band.

Like other Rolex watches the Datejust features a 31-jewel chronometer movement and synthetic sapphire crystal.  The jeweled movement reduces friction and thus allows the movement to last for decades.
