Rolex and Golf

Rolex GMT Master

Rolex has been involved with and connected to the game of golf and the PGA for over forty years. It started when Rolex gifted a gold Oyster Perpetual to one of the most renowned and respected golf players of all time, Arnold Palmer. Regarded as a living legend in the golfing world, Palmer popularized golf for the people by bringing pace and excitement to the game.

This relationship between Rolex and golf strengthened when two other major icons, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, joined the league. Rolex chose them for their admirable qualities of dedication, competitiveness, and, of course, hard work: each a basic characteristic of Rolex and the storied history of the company. Rolex was no doubt particularly impressed by Jack Nicklaus's eventual unprecedented 18 major titles and 100 victories worldwide.

As Rolex continued to honor the players' achievements in the game, this trio proved their mettle over a span of 28 years by winning 34 Majors. Today, popularly recognized as "The Big Three" by Rolex, each member of the trio is known both for his contribution to the game and for his long-term relationship with Rolex. All three were invited to pay a well-organized visit to the Rolex headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on July 23, 2007. With full media coverage, the three distinguished greats of the golfing world paid a visit to the official Rolex headquarters as the entire world saw one more time an intimate celebration of their relationship with Rolex, based on the common values of achievement and excellence.

Beyond maintaining this strong relationship with the trio, Rolex has also connected itself to some of the major golfing events in the game. For instance, Rolex is proud to maintain a close relationship with the prestigious event that pits the best American golfers against the best European golfers: the Ryder Cup. In fact, Rolex now operates as an official partner of the Ryder Cup and will for some time to come, including the following future events:

  • The 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky
  • The 2010 Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales
  • The 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois
  • The 2014 Ryder Cup at Perthshire in Scotland

Moreover, Rolex proudly has become the "Official Timekeeper" for the European Tour, the European Seniors Tour, and the European Challenge Tour. The connection between Rolex and the PGA is strong and positive, reflecting a long and impressive track record of working together to achieve the best for the players, the game, and the fans.
